Multifocal lenses
Multifocal lenses are contact lenses with a power for far, near and in between, among other things for people who spend a lot of time at the computer. These lenses have a gradual transition from distance power to reading power. In general, the distance power is in the centre of the lens and the reading power is around the outer edge. This also applies the other way around. The advantage is that people with reading difficulties no longer need reading glasses in addition to their lenses – the reading glasses are, as it were, built into the lens.
Bifocal lenses
Bifocal contact lenses, like multifocal lenses, are lenses with both a near and far power. However, bifocal lenses have two separate zones in the lens rather than a gradual progression from distance power to reading power. Bifocal lenses therefore have no intermediate power. The distance power is at the top, while the reading power is at the bottom of the lens. To ensure that the reading part remains at the bottom, the lens is slightly thickened/weighted at the bottom so that the lens won’t rotate in the eye.
Monovision
In addition to using multifocal or bifocal lenses, there is also the option of monovision. Here, a lens is worn in one eye to see clearly from a distance and a lens is worn in the other eye to see well up close. The brain automatically chooses which eye to use when.

Veelgestelde vragen
Bifocal lenses and multifocal lenses are more expensive than regular lenses. Monovision lenses cost just as much as regular lenses. Because there are many possibilities and the measurement is custom-made, an exact quotation can only be provided after a fitting.
Current rates can be found on our Eye Care Rates page.
- Re-fitting: For people who already wear lenses.
- New fitting: For people who do not yet wear lenses. This involves instruction on how to insert, remove and maintain the lenses.

After this first service, you can take out a Visser Service subscription. This subscription includes most services (free of charge, see Rates with Visser Service subscription). In the unlikely event that you aren’t satisfied with the maximum achievable result of your reading lenses, you can return them at the follow-up check.
