Soft lenses

Soft lenses, like rigid lenses, are permeable to oxygen. The difference with a rigid contact lens is that the material of a soft lens absorbs water and tear fluid. This makes the lens soft and smooth. A soft lens is also somewhat larger than a rigid lens.

Information on the fitting

Pros

  • Quick adjustment (about a week)
  • Easy to alternate with glasses
  • Less trouble with sensitivity
  • Less trouble with dirt under the lens
  • Less chance of losing them
  • Easy to wear for sports

Cons

  • Shorter lifespan and therefore more expensive to use
  • Does not correct cylinder power as well as rigid lenses

Silicone hydrogel lenses

Silicone hydrogel lenses are a type of soft lenses with very high oxygen permeability. This lens is often suitable for people who suffer from dry eyes. Have you worn regular soft lenses in the past and didn’t like them because you suffered from burning, red or dry eyes, or an uncomfortable feeling at the end of the day? Then we recommend a visit to our practice. The chances are that you won’t have these complaints when you wear silicone hydrogel lenses.
