Complaints
The dry eye exam is intended for people who suffer from dry eyes. These can be people who wear contact lenses, but people without contact lenses can also suffer from dry eyes. Common complaints connected to dry eyes are:
- red eyes
- burning eyes
- feeling like there’s a grain of sand in your eyes
Exam
Depending on the complaints, we carry out a number of exams. These are intended to find out what is causing the complaints. The tear layer consists of fats, water and proteins which must be in balance with each other. When one or more of these components is not present in sufficient quantities, an imbalance arises, resulting in dry eyes. If we know which component is not sufficiently present, we can proceed with a therapy. For example, this may consist of drops that supplement one or more components, brushing the eyelids, massaging the sebaceous glands of the eyelids, or wearing bandage lenses.
